<image:title>The Town - Todos Santos, Baja California Sur, Mexico</image:title>
<image:caption>Todos Santos is a charming coastal town of ~6500 nestled in the foothills of the Sierra de la Laguna mountain range, on the Pacific Coast of Baja California Sur, Mexico. Its location nearly on the Tropic of Cancer ensures warm, dry, sunny weather the majority of the year. Todos Santos is located over an aquifer, which makes agriculture possible and abundant, with palm trees, fruit orchards and fields of vegetables a surprise and welcome sight in this otherwise arid desert region. With views of Pacific Ocean sunsets to the west and the 7000 foot peaks of the Sierras to the East, Todos Santos is completely surrounded by natural beauty.</image:caption>

      <image:title>The Town</image:title>
<image:caption>Todos Santos was originally founded as a Spanish mission in 1723. The Jesuits attempted to convert to Catholicism the local Pericu, Cochine and Guaycura natives who lived in the surrounding mountains. That didn’t work out so well, but the pueblo continued to grow and prosper, with sugar cane being a major export in the 1800’s, until the aquifer dried up in the 1950’s. Rainfall has since replenished the aquifer, but water continues to be a precious commodity. In 1984 Highway 19 between Cabo San Lucas (popularly known as “Cabo”) and Todos Santos was paved, giving tourists an easy 60 minute, scenic drive to the tranquil Mexican village. This revival brought many artists and surfers to the area. Pretty soon art galleries and shops filled with local handmade goods lined the streets. Todos Santos saw an influx of bars and locally owned restaurants serving everything from street tacos to high end cuisine. With idyllic weather, a historic and colorful downtown, and abundant outdoor activities, Todos Santos should be on everyone’s must visit list!</image:caption>

      <image:title>About the Property - About the Property</image:title>
<image:caption>Casa de la Luz has a private “secret garden” feel within its gated walls. There are native agave and aloe plants waiting to greet you, as well as various species of cacti and bougainvilleas. You’ll notice plenty of outdoor space and the towering palapa roof of the master bedroom upon entering the property. The master bedroom boasts an impressive ~20 foot high traditionally built thatch roof and 360 degrees of windows giving you views of the Pacific Ocean from bed. A well pressurized shower with plenty of hot water is located within the master bedroom. You’ll rest your head on a King size canopy bed with bamboo comforter and high quality linens, completely protected by mosquito netting. There are drawers, hooks and hangers for your belongings. Blackout curtains give you the option of complete darkness in case the margaritas or the sun get the best of you. There is plenty of space within the palapa to stretch, do yoga or cartwheels. After morning rituals are complete, step through the arched doorway and a few steps outside is the stone tile floored bathroom, where you have a full septic system and brand new toilet for use when nature calls.</image:caption>

<image:title>About the Property - Now you’re ready for breakfast! You could take a walk down the road to the aptly named “La Esquina” (The Corner) or head a little further into downtown for a delicious Mexican brunch. Check out my favorite breakfast spots here. Or you could take a few steps into your kitchen and whip up your own “desayuno” exactly how you like it, and eat in peace and privacy out on the patio overlooking the neighborhood, surrounding desert and Pacific. Mourning doves and other local birds are frequent visitors. Enjoy the breeze and the al fresco meal. The kitchen contains a 4 burner gas stovetop, as well as an oversized camp oven and all the necessary utensils for cooking. Your water comes from the town aquifer, and is filtered in a top of the line Berkey Water filtration system, which greatly cuts down on plastic use. There’s a refrigerator and cupboards for food storage, and coolers for your use at the beach or hiking.</image:title>

      <image:title>About the Property</image:title>
<image:caption>The yard includes your very own fire pit, whose warmth you’ll appreciate on the cool desert nights. There is also a coal grill for cooking freshly caught red snapper you picked up from the fishermen down in Pescadero Beach, a large patio with a table and zero gravity chairs and gardens to stroll around in and enjoy the cacti, palms and other flowering species. Your backdrop to the east is the 7,000 foot Sierra de la Laguna mountain range. To the west, Pacific sunsets enjoyed right from the patio will not disappoint. There are friendly neighbors several plots away, and plenty of privacy within the 6 foot walls.</image:caption>

<image:title>FAQs - Is Baja part of the US or Mexico?</image:title>
<image:caption>Baja California Sur is a state in the country of Mexico. It is called Baja California Sur, which mean Beneath California South, because of its position below Baja California, the other state in the Baja Peninsula. Guess where Baja California got its name -that’s right, because of its position beneath the US state of California, which belonged to Mexico up until the Mexican American War in the mid 1800’s. How far from the US border is the property? Todos Santos is located waaay down in the southern tip of the peninsula, about a 22 hour drive from the Mexico-US border. What airport do I fly into? You fly into San Jose del Cabo, airport code SJD. Its an international airport located a scenic hour and 15 minute drive from Todos Santos. Should I rent a car? Yes, you should definitely rent a car. One of the best things about this area is the vastness, so not everything is within walking distance. And most of the best spots will definitely require a vehicle to get to. Also, Uber doesn’t run in Todos Santos yet. Within the town itself there’s a lot you can walk to, or ride bikes. But the beaches and hiking and diving and surfing all need a car to access. 4x4 or all wheel drive isn’t totally necessary, but it does make things easier. I always rent a small SUV or Jeep when I visit.</image:caption>

<image:title>FAQs - Is there a hospital or urgent care clinic nearby?</image:title>
<image:caption>There is a small St. Jude’s Hospital in town, and larger hospitals an hour away in either direction in both La Paz and Cabo San Lucas. There are also dentists and doctor’s offices and pharmacies. 911 is the emergency number, just like in the US. Will I need Mexican pesos? I would highly recommend it. You can order early from your bank or AAA, or you can wait and exchange money at the airport exchange, which doesn’t always give the most favorable exchange rate. Alternately, you can use the ATM at the Bancomer Bank in downtown Todos Santos. Some places take cards, all take cash, it’s easier to have at least some on you. Don’t forget to set a travel notice with your bank so your cards don’t get turned off! Will my cell phone plan work? Verizon covers the US, Mexico and Canada in their plans, so if you have them as a carrier you should be fine, its what I have and it works great. I get service at the house and in town, and in most areas of Baja Sur, which means that my GPS works too. Once you get into the mountains or into the Cabo Pulmo area service gets patchy, so always have a paper road map, there’s one for your use at the house. Call your provider and check before you travel!</image:caption>

      <image:title>FAQs - What is the weather like?</image:title>
<image:caption>Perfection, if you ask me. Pretty much always dry and sunny during the tourist season, which runs November through June. Daytime 80’s-90, night time 60’s-70. Coolest months are January and February where daytime temps will be low 80’s, dry and breezy. Off season is July through October, it gets very hot and rains if there’s a tropical storm or hurricane. November is the most beautiful month (in my opinion) because after some rain in the previous months the desert springs to life, cacti flower and it is lush everywhere. It’s also the buggiest season, but still far fewer bugs than New Hampshire in June. From April on things start to look really dry and the landscape is a lot more grey and tan, but the weather is also more consistently cloudless and the ocean gets warmer. Might want to bring a wetsuit if you have one and plan to surf during the cooler months…</image:caption>
